Recommended Smog Test and Auto Repair Shops:
Bauer's Auto Repair, 1790 University Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94703, (510) 841-0475
After failing my smog test and getting a 60-day registration renewal extension from the DMV, I took my vehicle (190,000 miles) to them in March of 2009 (days before the 60-day extension expired) and they made the necessary repairs quickly and at a reasonable price. They also fixed a substantial engine hesitation in my vehicle that had been present since early 2001. They succeeding in identifying and repairing a problem that five repair shops had failed to do over the last eight years.
On July 30, as I was driving through Oakland in the late afternoon, I heard a rattling and clanking noise under my hood. Remembering the great service Bauer's gave me earlier, I jumped on the freeway hoping that my vehicle wouldn't die before I got there. They saw me right away at closing time, and I left my vehicle with them overnight. Again, they identified the problem and made the necessary repairs at a reasonable price the very next day.
I would rate Bauer's Auto Repair a 10 out of 10.
